I'm looking for the 'tactical' enlarged magazine and bolt release latches for my SOCOM 18. I found the Sadlak mag release latch on treelinem14 but was wondering if there are other options and where to find them in Canada.

Thanks Nutz.

I've tried the Sadlak one and the ProMag one and the Sadlak was FAR superior in fit and function. Just make sure you order the metric version.

I have the Sadlak metric.... Flawless! But usually hard to find in Canada.

Treelinem14.com wants over $21 to ship that tiny part...RIPOFF! Does anyone in Canada sell it?

Pop, I can't tell from the pic...is that bolt release larger than the original? It doesn't look serrated.

It's not serrated, it has extended bumps on the top and bottom for positive traction and it's longer than the stock part. It's the Rooster33 design that I've heard nothing but praise for. I haven't tried it myself, but I fondled on Barney had on his teaching rifle a couple of years back and it worked great. My brief experimentation with extended bolt releases was with the SEI model and I was thoroughly unimpressed with that one (I found it twitchy and unreliable).

The only place I've seen the Sadlak mag release available in Canada is from Armtac, and it's $62 there with $14 shipping (plus tax).

Personally I find both these items utterly useless and akin to "bling"

I could see using the mag release for guys wearing gloves. As for bolt release... I use the oprod

^^ I agree, but I just had to drink the KoolAid! :D yes, I've learned to master the op rod but it sure feels KOOL to slap the left side of the receiver just like an AR carbine's bolt release.

No doubt there are lots cheaper alternatives (read: master the op rod racking) but without a doubt, you have to figure out what works for YOU (and only you) and your game! :)

Hope this helps the addiction!

Cheers,

Barney, reading some of your early posts got me hooked on these rifles (don't buy one, buy two). Just one more, I swear. I can give it up anytime I want.

Of course it's about the bling and cool factor, I wouldn't pretend otherwise. It's not like I'm taking the rifle into combat.

Here is my mag release. Cheap and I find it handy. Especially if you shoot CQB. Just a piece of sheet steel welded at the BOTTOM of the bolt stop. There is a ledge to fit it on. DO NOT weld up near the pivot pin hole. The weld will blow through the hole causing GREAT aggravation trying to re drill it to get the pin through. I spotted it with a MIG welder so it looks unprofessional.

As many of us know, one downside of the bolt release is that it will drop the bolt if you put you rifle down on a flat surface with the chamber facing up.

Even though I know this it's easy to forget. Not a big deal unless there is a loaded mag in the rifle.

I will say that just because "I" think they amount to bling doesn't mean others shouldn't use em or won't find them usefull.
I've installed a great many SEI bolt latches... Lapping or reaming them for the chinese pin is no fun. Go see Dave over at magwedge, if he's got the real deal rooster 33 item... That's the one you want 4sure. (Just don't mention on m14forum Mr smith is in a suing everyone mood just ask laz2k LOL )

As for mag releases, NEA had the UberHuge paddle type and sadlak makes one with the metric hole. The sadlak unit is top notch in the chinese trigger assembly. Not sure if NEA still makes their version.

Well, since I hear my name being bruited about I will add that we have the "R33" type M14 bolt releases available at $60 Canadian on the website.

I think this compares favourably to the US pricing (last I checked, $65 US ) and you have no concerns about the goodies crossing the border in a timely fashion. Plus ours are nitride finished for extra toughness and enhanced rust resistance ... for those really bad dishwasher experiences, LOL.

And of course we are proudly Canadian ...

PS - thanks for the plug Thomas and I will keep an eye out for the redoubtable Mr Smith and whatever he might choose to do.

I have the SADLAK mag release on both of my M14s, it's a great upgrade... easy to manipulate.

Both rifles also have SEI bolt catch/release, also a nice upgrade.

I couldn't get my hands on one back when I was building up my rifles... I think it would be a nice add to my Blackfeather build.

For now I am not selling parts into the USA, but I hope that early in 2015 I will have an FFL to import all of my parts there.
