Do you guys think that the M14 Tri-rail mounting system (like here) + a rail extension (like here) is a good idea for mounting a scope on the M14? I have a recent Poly.

I'm thinking of either a system like that or the Sadlak Aluminum mount. The scope would most likely be a Falcon Menace 4.5-18x56 IR (I'm very pleased with the 4-14 FPP on my SL8).

Thanks!

I heard that there was going to be an insert to that rail to extend it to the stripper clip guide. Maybe will be released "hopefully" in a couple of month's.

Also Fab Sport's although sold out has this mounting bracket that might fit the bill;

Me personaly, I am not big fan of this style of set-up.

Those YHM cantilever risers are crap. I know because I bought two...
Out of spec for the picatinny rail & not solid enough to maintain zero.
$30 & both the 5" & 6" are yours...

I'd avoid the riser, especially if you're using a normal M14 stock. It adds another inch of height to the thing, means you'll need some big cheek rest block.

the UTG tri rail [ and most of the UTG's competition ]and the Sadlak side mount [ and most of the Sadlak's competition ]
both use the side hole in the receiver ...
so you can't use them together.

The UTG M14 tri rail is primarily designed as a FORWARD/SCOUT mount, to forward mount light weight optics and/or other accessories, and it fulfills this role fairly well.
BUT,
The UTG does NOT mount consistently or solidly at the rear, and is not really intended for mounting big heavy tacticool scopes at the back, over the receiver.

Thomas, myself, and others are working on various other solutions, ranging from more solidly mounted add ons for the UTG, to better, more solid tri rails that will hopefully be less cost than the big name versions, and lighter, and better.

But don't hold your breath waiting ...

well the best add on yet to the UTG that we have performed in the shop here is actually jigged up and tig welded to the existing UTG unit and the rear of the now solid rail mounts securely to the stripped clip area. NOT a practical application to sell to the masses, BUT man it sure works like a hot damn.

Otherwise, and without revealing our little unit, production WILL start on the "user installed" version shortly. I will also be bringing an entirely new optics mount out for the M14 in the new year. Holding your breath to wait for these items will probably be detrimental to your health LOL but seriously, the wheels are turnin and I have the right people behind this to get it done...... finally :cool:

It's called a Vltor stock.

Personaly if I was going to get a setup like this I would get M14Doctor to make me a stock from a USGI fiberglass stock and get him to mod it excatly how I like. But hey that's just me, see;
