Is there anyone in Winnipeg that would have access to a TIG welder to do the unitizing, i have built a jig to hold the parts in alignment, but alas i dont have access to a TIG welder. any responces would be appretiated.

Send her out west, my unitizing service also includes annealing and bending stock band ears for optimum handguard fit. - also apply bluing agent to the welds, removing the shine . My welder has over 20 years experience behind a Tig machine as well ;)

Totally send it to M14Doctor. While anyone can do it, the process is not something that you want done as a "doctor's" first operation. You want to be operation 100 or whatever.

Tig welding the gas cylinders is done in our shop on brass jigs that the cylinders lock to as they would on a well fit barrel. This ensures no heat transfer to the chrome lined chinese gas cylinder walls.
Also, we use filler rod specifically designed for the chromoly steel the cylinders are made from. For usgi gas sytems, we use stainless rod and welds can not be blued. Immediately after the last weld is complete, cylinder, still attached to the jig, is allowed to slow cool while wrapped in a heat blanket. My welder has 20 plus years welding stainless process piping and stainless 16 guage. He is a master at his craft.
The welds are then treated with a bluing compound to blend them in nicely.
We offer a fast and professional service, anyone wanting this done can email me anytime.
