What scope was used primarily during the Vietnam war with the M14, USMC scout snipers or army etc? I want to retro fit mine that way. I currently have a Redfield 3X9 late 60's early 70's. But I might use that for my M40 build.

Thanks.

The early days was redfield 3x9 and then ART 1's. Israel and the US then went to the ART 2's.....but there weren't that many made. The US ART 2 had steel mounts and the Israeli ones had aluminum mounts . I have both.
The real early ART 3x9 scopes were made by Realist Optics and used on Remington 40x 7.62x51 repeater rifles in the 1970's. Many of them were made by MAC in Atlanta Georgia and came with and without SIONICS silencers. I have one that is without that I got all the optics for around 1976.

So my realy 70's Redfield 3X9 is not too far off for a decent scope for myM14.....If not, I'm heading to Texas for 2 weeks and might look around for an ARTI.

I doubt you can find a real ART 1 easily or cheap. As far as I know, it's not made anymore.

you will/might require us export permits for the scope check with the us state department as no paperwork could result in hefty charges/fines

"...heading to Texas...require US export permits..." Yep. Scopes require the U.S. export permit.
"...not made anymore..." They call it their Camputer models 1000 and 1200 now. List on a 1200 is around $700US. Currently made in China and aren't highly thought of, Stateside.

The Redfield Gunsight Co. ART TEL scope was the scope mounted on XM21 rifles sent to the Republic of Viet Nam. Realist made the ART I scope in 1969. It was tested by the U. S. Army in 1970 but not adopted. Leatherwood Bros. developed the ART II scope in 1978. Burris made the "A.R.T. III" scope for Springfield Armory, Inc. from 1978 to 1980. Burris produced the A.R.T. IV scope for Springfield Armory, Inc. from 1978 to 1994.
