Phantom

Opinions?

Things may have changed in the past year from when I was asking the same question for my FAL, but at the time I couldn't find any Phantoms sized for 7.62. Also, if you're looking for a Smith (this was my first choice, but didn't happen) make sure you get it from one of the few available means from within Canada, as distributors in the US cannot send it accross the border (I tried through Brownells and wasted several weeks while they got that answer).
So, I would recommend going with the Smith (SWAT magazine a few months ago did a trial and found it was the best on 5.56 ARs, but only slightly over the Phantom BTW).
FWIW, what I ended up doing was buying the 5.56 DPMS Phantom from TSE, and sending it along with the FAL to Dycor in Edmonton (they "Carbine-ized" my FAL) and they bored out the flash hider to deal with the 7.62 round:

There are many ways to get things across the border.. I don't know this guy but Alberta Tactical has open permits...

his website is here..

Thanks for the help with this guys. Ive decided to go the Phantom route. Jeff at Valley Guns has them available and they seem better for the 18.5" barrel reduction job that I beed to get done.

Phantom is a little shorter overall and may be nore suitable.

Ive noticed that YHM has numrous 7.62 phantoms out there.

Personally, I'd go with the Smith Direct Connection Vortex. They look smokin on short barrels, as wellas long barrels.

Smith DC Vortex on a 18.5" barrelled M1A.
