So how much is this worth?

Its my dad's converted auto rifle and im planning on transfering everything over to a norinco reciever so it can finally get out of the safe :)

Any Ideas?

Having it built onto a norc receiver would give you a fantastic non restricted. Value of the hybrid would in the 2000.00+ ballpark.
Generally 400.00 ish for the riflesmithing fees do do the swap and match fit the parts.
I say go for it, and get YEARS of use out of her. :D

You could do the same with an LRB receiver brought in through Prophet River as well and it would certainly be worth more than the difference you paid between the receivers.

Much easier if you plan on scoping it sometime too.

Just a caution - there was a thread here about someone doing this, and there was a subsequent interprovincial attempt to transfer the stripped receiver to a 12.3 holder. The stripped receiver was deemed to have lost its 12.3 status, and had reverted to 12.2; but becasue it wasn't a grandfathered 12.2, it became outright prohibited.
As far as value of the rifle goes, it is likely worth more as a parts set than as a 12.3. I suspect one would sell for $1000 or more very quickly.
As mentionned, this assembly will produce as fine a M-14 type rifle as you will find.

of course, this would be UNNECESSARY if pm harper would GET OFF HIS A** AND PUT THE FIREARMS ACT BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS IN 90, when your dad got his gun- THEY'RE SEMI-AUTOMATICS, PERIOD- not "converted " anything- when you get an m14 from the factory/armory it comes as a SEMI AUTOMATIC- you have to ADD THE PARTS from the baggie to get select fire- this should be our NEXT letter writing campaign

the norc IS a good receiver- it's closer to being mil-spec than most out there until you get into the likes of the lrb, smiths, and a bunch of others- YOU'VE BEEN READING CLINT'S B/S again, haven't you- remember, fulton has their OWN gun to sell, and it makes sense for him to TRASH-TALK a gun that sells for half his and is JUST AS GOOD- just like the norc m1911s- they're actually BETTER than most for a BUILD BASIS

I've got a couple early unmarked norc receivers with a finish that's better than my early m1a, and almost as good as my LRB's.

That being said, there are some rough norcs out there... still great receivers for builds though.

If one is worried about the prohib status of the usgi receiver once its parts and barrel are removed.... Just install the left over (or source a take-off) chinese barrel. The usgi, with ANY m14 type barrel intact, maintains it's status.

As for using an M1A or "LMT"
LMT makes AR parts not M14.
The two BEST choices are chinese or LRB receivers, hands down

As it sits, depending on condition, throat and muzzle wear of barrel, condition of piston and cylinder wall, from 650 to 900 as a parts rifle, a couple hundred to 500 more if it has an NM barrel and NM sights.
Recently over the past months I've paid 650, 900 , 2 at 1250 and the next at 1000. Prices reflected condition and particular parts.

Take the parts and make a hybrid brings the value up to the 2000 and higher ballpark.
Maximum value as it sits to someone with 12-3? A fair price would be 1250 or less in my opinion.

I dunno bout that, but I'll give you 950 shipped as a parts rifle ;) you can keep the receiver

The value in the US of a complete rifle is kind of moot as due to the expatriat laws, once these rifles (USGI M14) leave the US, they are NOT permitted to re enter the states.
In canada, 20 years ago, they sold for 250 to 400 after being purchased as surplus from Isreal.

I'll add that CGN member and M14 historian "Different" could probably tell you what such a rifle would be worth if it was actually in the u.s.

Sadly, in canada, the converted auto, now semi auto only, genuine M14 rifles, don't hold much collector value, save for those looking to have one from each manufacturer, even then, if you got more than say 1500.00 from a canadian 12x collector, you would be making out well. They have appreciated in "value" by 3 to 4 times their original selling price over 22 years.... Not so bad

And they haven't been molested by a C/A conversion.

If we ever see the USGI m14 go back to nonresricted, I'm thinkin you'll see prices of rifles like your dad's jump to a bare minimum 2000.00 . I'd happily pay that and more in that perfect world :D

Show us some pics of that ol girl ;)
