The M305 receivers CAN be drilled out to accept the larger diameter USGI pin. Use a very high quality and BRAND NEW TiNi coated HSS drill, or if you do more than one, buy a cobalt drill. Or reduce the diameter of the GI pin - it's hard, so you'd better have a lathe and carbide tooling. Or make a new GI-length pin out of whatever, but don't make it too soft or the connector will beat the crap out of the pin.
I usually just alter the receiver lately, but I used to machine the pins down. Both methods work, but drilling the receiver is a "better" fix as future parts swapping is easier.
FWIW, the longer pin is not needed for full auto. The recess cut for the disconnector to reciprocate in keeps the front end of the disconnector from touching the pin unless the stock is worn, and also, the op rod recess shape keeps the disconnector from dropping down on the pin with the bolt closed and the action removed. Full auto will still work with a short pin if all the other parts are in place. The Americans, I think, went to a long pin because it was easier than milling a step into the stock below the disconnector bar.
I hate the popsicle stick mod. It's amateur hour if you are spending big on other parts of the rifle anyway.
I missed he Grade 1 stocks, sadly, so I have a Grade 2 en route. Hopefully it's not a dog.
If it's not better than the other walnut stock I have here, then it will become a spare. But either way, I already have a spare set of GI metal here - so that's a bonus. Hopefully they have the nosecap still installed. It's very tough to remove a nose cap without destroying either the cap or the stock, as they are heavily pressed into the wood. I don't have a spare nosecap right now, but at least Treeline has them.
SIMON: Are the nose caps still present on these? Hard to tell in pics.
