I have heard that there are problems with the barrel indexing for the Norinco M14s. I just got mine in the mail and was wondering if someone could explain how I can check this.

Thanks

Yes, look through that link.

Make sure the leveling bars you use are indeed flast/level first off.

I had removed the front sight and placed the front leveling bar on the dovetail flat the front sight mounts on, and on the flat area behind the rear sight.

When indexed, when looking at the bars you should not see any of the rear bar.

The little pointed "tit" on the bottom of the barrel chamber should line up dead center with the center of the op rod guide slot as well.

SKBY.

This is 6 degrees or so out of index, this is my latest Marstar M14S.

i just re indexed one of my new m14s (marstar sourced) , it was slightly over indexed, but not enough that any special treatment was required. I backed the barrel off and then retorqued to index. It took easily 80 to 100 lbs of force to bring it back to proper index once loosened, so she is good to go.
a proper barrel vice and receiver wrench come in real handy. ;)

Often you can tell just by aiming the rifle - the front sight will look crooked. Also, if the group and front and rear sights are centered, indexing is fine. If either the front or rear sight must be way off to one side in order to zero the rifle, the barrel may not be indexed properly.
Don't assume that all M305s have this problem.
