HELLO I'm trying to get my charger guide off so I can mount my scope base. I don't have a drift punch so I'm wondering if I can just whack on the pin with an allen key and hammer or a filed down nail. Suggestions?

I'm also trying to mount one of the NcStar universal M14 bipods and it doesn't look like it's going to fit into the little gas system gap and I don't want to mount it to the barrel. I can screw the 4 holes into the mystery wood stock but I'm not sure if it's going to crack or just generally fall apart.

do yourself a favour go to canadian tire and buy a cheap set of punches, that little pin is in there flippin tight. If you use a nail you run the risk of mushrooming the pin and getting it stuck.

Exactly what Robmcleod82 said... I've done the cheap (super cheap) approach with the nail about 25 years ago. Save yourself the grief and buy some cheap punches from Princess Auto or Cambodian Tire or Home Depot (just to get started). Then when your M14 addiction gets more intense, buy some pin punches (about $ 2.00 each) from Brownells. You need each of the small sizes (1/8", 1/16", 5/64", 7/32"). Better yet, buy 2 of 3 of the small sizes since they DO tend to break as time/each mission goes by. BTDT :D

One of these days, all of you M14 lovers are gonna be the experts and that would coincide with the moment some errant school bus driver whacks me (while I'm on school bus duty) at my high school. So it's in my interest to make you all knowledgeable FAST.

Kinda figured by the time they're in high school, they'd have figured out how to get on and off the bus. Or maybe the guys need help because the crotch of their pants is hanging down so far they can't manage the steps up into the bus !! Curmudgeon mode off ;-)
