What’s the deal with m16 style parts in a Canadian ar? Unless I’m mistaken the yanks seriously frown on m16 bcgs or other bits even sharing the same owner as an ar15 receiver.
However, I’ve seen “m16” bcgs advertised in Canada. Are we different, or am I all wrong on the American laws?

You can put it all into receiver here, minus the auto-sear or any kind of DIAS that actually let's it shoot more than one round per trigger pull.

Thanks. And I assume the auto sears or dias or lightning links by themselves are all considered totally prohibited devices? Or are they just chunks of metal?

DIAS and Lightning Link and similar devices designed to convert a semi auto to auto are prohibited devices all by themselves - even if no firearm is present.
A M-16 auto sear cannot make a semi auto into an auto because it will not fit an approved semi auto AR.

Cool. Seems like a rare case of our laws being more sensible.

US law is exactly the same as ours in this respect. As long as the gun isn't currently (and never was) automatic, it's semi-automatic, and therefore legal.

Semi-auto bolt carriers have all but disappeared from the AR-15 scene down south. That is why you see M16 carriers up here so much now: anything else has become hard to find.

Wrong on all counts.

They and we can have a bunch of auto parts, but if the receiver isn't an auto one, all is good.
