I'm looking for the 5/20 rd straight mags, since i'll be buying a Norinco CQ311 shortly. Anyone know where I could get a few of these?

Also, i'm looking for a triangular handgaurd.

Apply for permision to get onto the Equipment Exchange (EE).

In the meantime just hang around, find a forum you can enjoy, make a few posts, help someone else, learn something, just like all the rest of us. Become a part of the COMMUNITY: that's what it's all about.

In a couple of days, likely, you will get permission (you need it) to get onto the EE, then you look for some mags there. Usually there are lots.

BTW, the rifles they used in 'Nam were rifled 1 turn in 12 inches for the 53-grain load.

Welcome aboard!

I recently built (am building? still missing the correct buttstock) a Nam-era M16 clone with three-prong flash hider, slab side upper, triangular handguards, and straight 5/20 round Colt mag on a Colt Sporter Match Hbar lower. The parts are a pain to find in Canada, I think your best bet is to put an ad on the EE. That's how I got mine but I didn't exactly steal them.

I'm not familiar with the CQ311 off the top of my head, you'll want to do some research first to make sure the triangular handguards will fit, both in length, and also the retaining ring at the front whose proper name escapes me at the moment.

Someone on the black rifle forum will likely know for sure whether the parts will work.

Good luck! Gotta love that early style M16/AR.

I've done a Vietnam era version of the cq311. The triangular guards fit great, (very snug) but don't forget you need a new triangular cap piece at the front as well, and you need to remove the flash hider and front sight to install it. Heat and a good punch set are a must for the front sight removal.
