Anyone know off hand what the inside diameter of the receiver threads for the barrel is ? Also what is the TPI and angle of the thread ? And depth ?

Don't have one of them either LOL, but am looking at a BSA M17 action with an "E" stamping and figure it's an eddystone.

According to Frank De Haas' Bolt Action Rifles (4th ed), there are differences between the Pattern 1914 and the Model 1917. The barrels are 1.325" at the ring. The threads are 1.125" OD, and 1.085 at the deepest. The term '10 SQ T.P.I.' appears below the drawing. The P-14 threads are .720" long, while the Model 1917 are .800" long.

The differences are the shape of the breech face. The .303 is square with a semi-circular extractor cut. The 30-06 has a 45-degree angle cone-shaped breech face.

The drawings are on page 687 of the book. Worth getting your own copy to answer this sort of question (and learn far more than any 10 knowledgible gun owners have forgotten).

Just a comment about rebarrelling one of these rifles - the barrel breech diameter at 1.325" is larger than most other rifles. Consequently not all blanks will work for a '14 or '17.

What I have been mulling over in my very imaginative brain :D is a threaded insert, with threads to match the 17 action, and threads on the inside to match the barrel. There is bound to b many variables why this won't work, but the main one I was wondering about was the thickness of the insert. It would have to have enough meat on it for strength or it could very well rip out of the receiver.
