Does anyone have a M1866 Chassepot? What is the going rate on them? Am looking for one for a relative but I am not sure what the market is like for them.

Any comments, personal experiences or input would be more than welcome.

Thanks Bushman, I did see the one on P&S and thought it was a little high as well, hence why I wanted to see around. I don't have any feeling for these. French rifles, rubber gaskets and pointy pins usually aren't my thing. :p

I have a nice old Gras rifle -chassepot- brass cartridge conversion, parden all the grease on her.
Im still trying to get a bayonet and a cleaning rod for the old girl.

She cleaned up real nice, Im trying to decide if im going to reblue her or not.

Shes heavy compared to my mk2 snider, a nice solid battle rifle!!

How's the Gras related to the Chassepot?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chassepot

The gras was/is the chassepot adapted to fire the "new" metallic cartridge, they changed the bolt face/firing pin and adapted a bit of this and that, mine posted there has the then revolutionary groove in the chamber to aid in the release of explosive gasses in case of a cartridge rupture.

Pretty neat!

Haha, you do eh?

I think I have to stick to finding a Chassepot, as much as I get this feeling its gonna kill me. :p

But thanks Bushman, I appreciate it nonetheless.
