I know this is a pistol but I figured it would be best served in this forum then the Pistols forum that seems to always deal with modern hand guns.

Anyone seen or have one of these ? Any idea what they go for ? I know the cartridge must be impossible to load for but I did a bit of research on these and I am interested in acquiring one.

Thanks for your help all.

There has been one for sale on the antiques EE for months.

They are chambered for 10.6mm German Service Ordinance. This equates to .44 Russian. Brass is available from StarLine. Easy to reload for but you'll want to keep to black powder loads. These guns are 120+ years old - treat them gently! These guns are heavy, unwieldy, unbalanced and have heavy triggers - damn, I miss the one I sold! :p ;)

Found the one on the Antique EE and it is a very good example too. The price is roughly where I expected it would be for a very good condition one. However, I am looking for a bit of choice. I wouldn't object to having one that is in fair condition. It would go right along nicely with my C96 that has seen some better days but is still in shooting condition. Collecting these old firearms has made me appreciate the value of mis-matched examples that have that "been there, done that" look to them.

I can't recall seeing too many of them for sale.

The one on the EE is of course an 1879, I've seen a few 1883s go on the EE for about the same price over the last few years. Since its an antique, you may try bringing in one from the states - no much hassle and they seem to be cheaper down there. Try gunbroker and see what you come up with.

Good idea! I was thinking they were restricted (these gun laws are so weird sometimes).

Is the M79 Reichsrevolver officially considered an antique in Canada ?

Yeah, they're all pre-1898 and 10.6mm German isn't on the list, so they're good to go. More important if you're looking at getting one from the states, they're also antiques down there so you don't need a firearms exporter to get it out the States. As I understand it you can just have it shipped straight to your home.

Now that is cool. Any "antique" I wanted to get from the U.S. has either been classified as non-restricted or restricted so it killed any chance of getting them.

I recently did have a barrel imported from the U.S. the legal way and CBSA still opened the package for inspection. Anyone imported an antique from the U.S. before ? How would I go about properly labeling the package so CBSA does not confiscate it ?

My funny story. Imported a Long Lee from Canada, and Customs sent me a letter saying I had to submit import paperwork. Called them up, and said it's an ANTIQUE, no paperwork required, the date is on the buttsocket. "Oh, we thought that was the model number! 1891
They released it.

Now that is funny! Makes you wonder if any of the custom officials actually recognizes any of the imported/exported firearms going through.

It is great news that the Reichsrevolver is considered an antique, that opens alot more doors to choice and variety as well as a more competitive price.
