Has anyone ever heard of any M1895 Lee-Navy rifles being imported to Canada or sold in Canada? I see some for sale on the Rock Island Auction site, but I'm guessing the import and shipping fees would be insane.

I'd love to take a look at one for that fascinating action

I saw one for sale at a gunshow a while ago in military configuration and like a total fool didn't buy it. Not the first one I have seen come around, so yes some made it in.

Importing fees weren't so bad when I did it, might have changed since.

I probably saw the same one Coffice mentioned if it was a gun show near Halifax in 2018. Even had ammo on the strange almost stripper clips they use with it too for 1000. Same gun show also had a Winchester-hotchkiss rifle, amazing what pops up

Suppose since they're rather rare, it's more of a rifle that you'd have to be patient and see when it pops up; no point in deliberately searching unless you've got a lot of cash to through around I'd assume. 6mm Lee-Navy also sounds like a rather impossible round to find

M1895 Lee is light , handy and accurate rifle when it works. Cases can be made from 220 Swift and 105gr .243" bts shoot well.
The story of this arm resembles that of the Ross in many ways. It was adopted after trials against a field of arms which included no successful military arm like the Krag, Mannlicher, Berthier, Lee Metford or Mauser. No troop trials were done and it was put straight into production. Early experience on peacetime revealed many flaws including one unit which lost bolts due to a poor design of bolt stop. The USN and USMC dropped this arm after a short while.

You have to be careful with 6mm Navy rounds too. These rifles did not have good gas venting, there was a collector enthusiast a decade or so ago who was killed shooting one when he had a case failure. Cool rifles which I would love to have one in my collection some day but not something to just mess around with.

Thanks for the info Green and Eaglelord17, I love that CGN's milsurp community is so knowledgeable... I've learned so much just browsing a couple pages of threads hahah... also man that is one unfortunate M1895. Always a shame to see such rare rifles get damaged like that

That’s correct. Wonder if it’s still around, I think remember the guy who had it.

I know this is an old thread, but I may have been the one who purchased it back in 2018 near Halifax. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I actually picked this over the Johnson Rifle. I honestly question if I made the right investment but I only had enough money for one.

The photo and the story to accompany it has prevented me from trying to shoot it. I’ve done an annual clean and lube but other than than that I am happy to let it stay retired. The original ammo seems to be period correct and I try not to touch the box too much as material flakes off everytime I do it.
