M1911A-1C: To Port or Not To Port???

before i give my opinion i have a quick question. is porting the same as compensated? as in : reduce recoil, but flame shoots out the top?
not good for a defensive gun, screws up your vision when fired at night, and burns if you were to shoot from retention. so i hear.

I had a Springfield Champion. It shot with remarkable accuracy and recoil was not too bad.
I had it Magna-ported and it lost some accuracy and recoil was still not too bad.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it! In other words I found no real benefit from the porting.
