So, Just bought my first handgun yesterday. Heading out to shoot it tonight.

Anyway, I got the gun mainly for the fact its close to the old M1911a1 style and doesn't cost an arm and a leg... I like classic guns, even if they are just reproductions. I'm looking to get an M1911a1 slide with the correct front and rear sights, whats a reliable place to go for something like this?

Thanks!

(Mags are loaded just for the sake of the picture. The thing is currently tucked away in my safe cleared.)

Although I haven't checked there for a slide, Marstars carries a lot of 1911A1 parts. That's where I got my latest parts a few days ago.

One thing to remember, though, is that not all parts are drop-in interchangeable, and may require gunsmith fitting, particularly when cross-breeding them.

Many quality slides I've seen for sale (used but original) tended to go for $300 or more, so this might be an expensive project. It would probably be a lot cheaper to obtain USGI-style sights & have them installed by a gunsmith, rather than replace the entire slide...and still need professional fitting to get reliable & safe functioning.

By way of illustration, I have several genuine USGI 1911A1's, and even with those guns, compatibility in direct swapping of slides is not guaranteed.

I'm just saying...

i have the SAM Commander .45 and really like the way it shoots...wouldn't change a thing.
Another thing to consider is the finish on any replacement slide is likely going to be different, I don't know what the finish is on the SAM's but it would probably be difficult to match.

1911's require fitting...
Lots of gunsmiths could help you with this but its probably cheaper to sell yours & buy exactly what you want.
And if it isn't cheaper it will be quicker.
