I was once a proud owner of an M1a and sold it(silly me). Now, the appearance of the socom and short barreled Canadian versions has again piqued my interest.

I want one!

Heres the thing though- I will be reloading for the platform, I will be investing in a case gage. But I am a bit worried about the effects that I might face from a case catastrophe or slam fire. Im staring that op rod right in the eye- after all.

What do yall think- If I do get it would it be worth to shoot right handed- or no point?

Buy lots of practice ammo and just shoot it. Slam fires are well documented and one can only tempt fate if you DON'T load from the magazine (and that goes for M1 Garands and their clips, too).

Mind you, the lefties just love the CQB inspired Israeli style magazine change, swap magazines and then just give the op rod handle a slap with your right hand while the left hand on pistol grip presents the rifle in business fashion. :D

Cheers,
Barney
