M1A barrel question

I have been really interested in the M1A platform my whole life.

I know I want to put it in a Blackfeather stock, but I haven’t narrowed it down to barrel length: 22” or 18.5”

I’m thinking 22” with a 4-12x optic or an 18.5” with 1-8x optic? Do any of you have experience with either?

With that in mind, I do have a question with regards to the LRB 18.5” tanker barrel; would this barre make the rifle non-restricted?

What optic mount will you be going for? CASM or ARMS 18 seem to be the best

If you get Norinco get 22"
1) It's easier to get the barrel cut than knock of the welded on flash hider.
2) Will fit the bayonet

I have an M305 with a Primary Arms 1-6x mounted, If you want shoot mine before you buy one
 
Not an M1A but a cheaper way to get to the same place (maybe).
Started as a Norinco but pretty much all that's left is the receiver. Krieger 18.5" barrel, M14.ca CASM mount, Blackfeather stock (bedded), Sadlak TiN piston, FA bolt and firing pin, trigger done, Hera Arms folding hinge, Burris Veracity 4-20x50, too much else to list. Best I've seen is 1.5 moa so far but I've only done one round of load development with Hornady 168gr HPBT over Varget, more testing to come when the weather warms up and I get some time with it.

I also own a beater with an 18.5" (cut down from 22") in a USGI fiberglass stock and mild accurizing. The scope is coming off once I find a decent load for it.

I've also owned a bone stock 22" (other than a trigger job).
Never had any issues with any of them.

Took me no more than 10 mins to gently tap the flash hider off my norinco shorty. Those aren't really welded on. Keep in mind I am a welder/metal worker professionally

There is no difference..... however, most AR barrels are already shorter than 18”.

When you start from a barrel blank, you can manufacture the barrel at whatever length you would like as long as it is longer than 107mm. But when you start with an already manufactured barrel, you may not cut it shorter than 18” with-out creating a prohibited device.
