Hey guys: does any body out there know the s/n range for the Springfield M1A bolts that were giving problems? I recently bought an M1A and when I looked at the bolt I noticed that the left rear lug shows some peening as does the rear of the bolt at the 3;o'clock position. I contacted Springfield but they have yet to respond.
Thanks scott.y.

Springfield Armory, Inc. issued a recall of M1A bolts in 1987. The recall applies to M1A bolts marked as follows:
  • 1) no numerical or alphabetical characteristics on either the top or back of the bolt (completely unmarked)
  • 2) any bolt with any numerical or alphabetical markings at all on the back of the bolt
  • 3) any bolt with the top marked 7790185 and with SA RRR centered below that number
  • 4) any bolt with the top marked 790185 and with SA centered below that number.

If the reader has such a bolt, contact the Customer Service Department at Springfield Armory, Inc. politely discuss your situation with the Customer Service Representative. Springfield Armory, Inc. still honors this recall if applicable to the part concerned.

The recall happened the year I was born. :runaway:

If there is a "F" on the bolt's number its good to go as are all "B" series as well.

Thanks Dimitri, It looks like my bolt falls into the recall range. We'll see if Springfield will look after it 20+ years after the original recall. Got a good M1A bolt for sale?

See how it goes with SAI, but from what I gather they are top notch when it comes to warranty issues. Even with some guns having warranty service done to them on the 3rd or 4th owner of the firearm.

I purchased a bolt i believe falls into this catagory, now when i called Springfield, they asked for the serial number of my M1A............ummmm....lol......

All i have a Norc. so does this mean i cannot get this bolt replaced under the Springfield warrenty since i do not have a overpriced M1A?

Wonder what they would say if i game 'em my serial number for my Norinco? lmao hahahaha

well if anyone has any ideas. would be greatly appreciated.

cheers and beers
