M1A flash-hider options

Hi guys,

For my M1A-EBR project I'll get a M14 doctor "ultimate front-sight" (on gas-cylinder). I want to switch the USGI FH for a Vortex-like.

Dlask told me they don't make a Vortec that fit the M1A.

The Smith Ent. vortex fit the original M1A threading, right?

Do I have a canadian option?

Any suggestion?

A smith enterprise dirtect connect vortex will fit your m1a threads. As far as i know, there's no canadian manufacturer for something similar.

Is this a Norinco Barrel that you are going to chop?

AFAIK, only the SEI one will fit factory threading. Why not shorten it to 18.5 and use a M14Doctor modified Dlask brake?

Yes it's the original M1A (US) barrel. I'm keeping it 22" to keep the flatest shooting. It's already a good shot with iron, worn fiberglass stock, no unitizing, no shimming and no trigger-job. Once the EBR conversion is complete, it should be impressive!

Please get the #2002V

As by doing so it will still alow you to use your stock iron sight's. Thus not having to change over to those ("no offence") hard to focus on, gas block sights.

LRB arms don't carry the 2002V anymore. Seems the castle-nut attachment is weaker and can affect accuracy.

No. The SEI FH are threaded imperial. Your chinese uses metric thread.

Actually, it uses a castle nut so it will fit ANY thread so long as you have a castle nut that will fit and the three splines for it to lock into. Most shorty bbl's aren't configured like that though

I think that's a load of BS. Most GI flash hiders are on so tight you have to whack them off using a ball peen hammer and a block of hardwood. The castle nut is just there to make sure they don't walk off over many rounds.

I wouldn't be surprised if LRB dropped them because it's a LOT easier (read: Cheaper) to manufacture a nice threaded FH than one with properly machined splines.

If M14Doctor or if most local gun smith's use the AR15 thread pattern so if you choose this route Dlask makes one that will slap right on there no issues for $40. I also belive M14Doctor also sell's them as part of his shortie package.
