Anyone with callipers be so kind as to check the width of the front blade on a Norc? The National Match ones are 0.062", trying to figure out how much of a difference there is between the two.
The USGI issued front sight is around 0.080" (or 80 thou) and common practice was to take a 6" or 8" mill bastard file and file AWAY from the receiver to taper your front sight post. Once you achieve the approx. 60 thou (give or take), then I would touch up the blade with some Birchwood Casey Cold Blue paste.
Thanks all, I knew the fellow cult members would produce!
Overall I'm very happy with how she shoots, and my rear sights seem to work okay, unlike my buddies which were FUBARed. To get zero at 100 the rear sights ended up being set at 550m and slightly right of centre.
I'll probably pick up a NM front sight as the stock one was covering most of the target at 100m. We'll see how much of a diff 0.015" makes... But then again any iron sight is a big change from the 1MOA centre dot in the EOTech!
And I'm sure I'll get around to trying Hungry's DIY method too, sooner or later. Gotta get a bastard file and cold blue first!
