I recently ordered an 'in-stock' barrel from Ian at Adams Lake Barrels.

Santa is treating me right this year.

I know these barrels require machining to install as it is not a drop in replacement.

Does anyone in Alberta do these. Took a look for an address for Dycor, but I have no idea if they are still in the game.

Thanks in advance.

Sprint,
these barrels, like most aftermarket M14 barrels, come with a SQUARE shoulder, and if not chrome lined, will come with a SHORT chamber. The heavier barrels are FULL ROUND at the outside contour of the chamber area rather than the special Garand / M14 contour, with tool specific flats, so they require several pieces of special tooling to install properly. First you need to under cut the shoulder, to create a bit of taper at the outside, so the correct "draw" torque and indexing rotation will result both at the same time and place. Then, once mounted, you need to lap in your bolt to full bearing on both lugs. After the bolt is set correctly, you then ream the chamber to correct .308 GO [ plus a teensy bit headspace ] which is usually done with an expensive special order pull through reamer .

Not many gunsmiths are set up to do this task properly.

Thomas/ M14 DR has the experience and the tooling to handle these installations.

Thanks much for the hard to come by details Laz.

I understand that Jeff @ Valley Gunsmithing also does this work quite competently. An option for staying in province would be ideal.

Just saying...
