I am trying to help a fellow order a new barrel (From .243 to 308) and after a brief conversation with him, he made the statement that his "Spring guide" was factory brazed to the barrel. I figure he must mean the op rod guide, because I cannot see how the spring guide could be fastened that way.

Just for my own benefit, can anyone shed light on this? I'm not sure he fully explained himself and I will not be speaking to him again for some time.

YEP --an SA match barrel has the op rod GUIDE fited to the barrel. PS it is a LOT wider than a regular op rod guide as well.

If you get an aftermarket Barnett barrel from Brownells, you should be good to go ... except the chamber will be about .010" short - to allow perfect chamber finishing and headspace.
good luck

Thanks, I figued as much. Krieger suppply a larger op rod guide with their M1a/m14 heavy barrels. That has to be what he was talking about.
