Well i have been looking at this rifle because i like the .308 cartrige and want a semi auto in it. My question is who makes these riflles brand new, and who in canada sells them with a 18.5" barrel so i can have it nonresricted? Or do i have to buy one used and get i modified?
Also how is the quality of the norinco?
Thanx

Hungry here: Don't buy ONE !

Buy TWO of them!!

umm, I'm guessing your new at this. so I'll be the first to welcome you to the board! you can try a search on M305 or M14/M1A on the board and you'll find more then you ever wanted to know about these guns. to answer your questions: the standered set-up for these guns is with a long barrel. you can buy an M305 from places like lever arms, P&D enterprises, and milarm. theres some others too but their names escape me for the moment. you could also find one on the exchange board. the cheapest place to get one is at Marstar, but good luck. at $399 apiece the last slow boat from china sold out befor it touched the shore. if your not in a hurry, you might see them getting more in a few months. asfar as quality, the M305 is the best gun norinco makes (my opinion ofcourse). if you can get one at the price marstar is selling, DONT BY ONE, BUY TWO!! you can always sell the seconed one and make your money back. the M1A is from springfeild armery in the states. you can buy them at the places I mentioned befor (except marstar). be prepaired to pay the price though. most models start at $2000!!! I've shot both, and while it was nice to shoot the "real thing" it dident inspire me to put down that kinda cash.

I hope that helps, try an "advanced search" with M14 or M305 in the "title only". you will have hours of reading if you do.

Cheers,
BCtrigger

very happy with my norinco. Havnt had any problems that werent user error (just my gas nut being a little loose.. Just tighten up and then you are good to go.

Buy a synthetic stock or a usgi one.. dont stick with the norinco mystery wood stock

Other then that I believe most people get the m14 supplies off of Marstar.

Hehe i did do a search b4 i asked the question. I got a LOT of hits and so much info that after reading for an hour i didn't get all the answers i wanted. Atleast this time the search actualy worked.....had a day i tried searching and the stupid thing kept telling my no results found......I knew it was there i was reading it the day b4, i had to manually go throuh like 10 pages to find it.
thanx for the responses

I was looking for an M-14 as well. Marstar is out of course. Then I checked out Fulton Arms, gunsmiths who build M-14's, and they had absolutely nothing nice to say about a Norinco except the recievers were good. If you send them your M-14 the only thing you are going to get back on the gun that's Norinco is the reciever, everything else will be USGI or aftermaket like a Krieger barrel etc.

They're FOS. I've owned both. The norc's are fine. I have had to swap the bolt for a tighter norc bolt a couple of times but for $400 its an incredible deal for an M14. Had a source for the norc bolts so I bought 3 tight one's per rifle so I'll be good for a long time. Even if you must have a little work done the whole package will still be under $1000 and be better than a stock SA. at $1800.

This guy's on the money, Fulton's full of it, remember it's in their best interests to spew this stuff. ALSO, the Norc's they work on in the US are primarily older Polytechs, ours are different for the mostpart. I've owned and worked on them all, older Poly's, 'New' Norcs, USGI'd (everything TRW but the receiver); and 'New' Norinco's barrels, recievers, and trigger groups are always comparable to USGI, and even better at times. I spent close to $3000 on an M14 last year, only to discover it shot the same as my box stock Norc (=very good, 1.5MOA), nicer looking for sure, but same groups.

The Norc's occasional failing, the bolt, is about a 1/3 bad apple kinda deal. Not a big issue to remedy either. Oh, and replace the chinese op spring, it takes a heavy set fast.

All in all, as the famed Hungry says; "Don't buy one, buy two!". It's so true, they're an amazing value. Soon as you hear a rumour of marstar bringing another boatload in :D , call in and get on the list for a couple, that's my advice and you won't regret it. Soon as my favorite is back from refinishing I'll snap a pic of what they can look like with just a little work, amazing!

Two problems with what Fulton Armory say about the Norinco M-14S rifle:

a) Thanks to 'Billy the Clint' (former U.S. President) no foreign made M-14 rifles can enter the U.S. after 1994 (I may have the exact year wrong but it's very close to that). The M-14 rifles in the U.S. are all made over ten years before ours and there have been many improvements since then.

b) Have a careful look through Fulton Armory's web site and it quickly becomes clear what they are there to sell: fancy hopped up M-14 rifles made in the good ol' You-Ess-of-Eh! They're not going to do that by telling their customers the Norinco's just as good as (or even better than) their standard rifle. You may as well go to a Chrysler dealership and ask them whether you should buy from Toyota

With regards to b), that's why I quote CGN members' opinions about the Norinco M-14S rifle often. People like Skullboy, Hungry, Mysticplayer, and many, many others who are in no way affiliated with Marstar will tell you all about how the 'Rinco '14 is the best battle rifle bargain in Canada bar none and can be turned into something approaching a 'man portable semi-auto laser beam' in accuracy (relatively speaking) for less then the price of a box stock Springfield M1A. Be nice to Barney (Hungry) and he'll even show you how in one of his M-14 DMR DIY Workshops ;)

Sadly we are presently out of stock on these rifles, are working on importing more, and have no definite or rough E.T.A. for the next shipment. 'ASAP' is as much as I can promise and am willing to say.

Hope this helps,

- Peter

I suspect Fulton Armory is also the source of the Internet myth about M-1's being damaged by ammo alone. They're in the business of bubbfying M-1's and other milsurps then charging an enormous price.
