I'm having trouble locking my trigger group into place on my Sage/M1A. It's an older SA receiver and a USGI Trigger Group. From what I understand, I'm not the first person to have this problem, I'm just wondering if anyone out there has a solution.. Thoughts? thanks!

Thanks for the reply. The thread you recommended was more geared towards the improper function of the disconnecter. My problem is that I can't even lock the trigger group into place.

Are you tightening the oprod guide screws prior to attempting to lock trigger?
If they are loose and trigger will still not lock in, some careful removal of material from trigger group bearing surfaces is preferred over removing material from the stock as this seriously affects the chassis value.
Carefully and with fine gunsmiths file (availlable at most tool/hardware store in sets) remove material from bearing points on trigger group "wings" and remove the same from the rear trigger group pad. A caliper will come in handy and only remove a few thousands of an inch at a time. Don't over do it as a snug lock up is desireable. Ensure fitting is complete when rife passes repeated in rifle, trigger group safety checks.
A cold blue, liquid such as canadian tire sourced "Outers" or birchwood casey paste, can be applied to modified trigger group surfaces once fitting is comlpete (unless you have a parkerizing bath handy ;) )

If you see in the post, it discusses a similar problem:

The fix is pretty easy for the most part....the issue stems from dimensional differences in the stock that effect the trigger group/receiver spacing relationship. In 95% of the guns I have seen exhibiting this problem, fixng it involves milling/sanding out a small amount of material from the ledge on the bottom of the stock where the back end of the trigger group sits. The following photographs are of a SAGE stock, however it is no different on a USGI or wooden one:

After:

For your rifle to be safe, the disconnector in your trigger group MUST catch the hammer when the trigger is fully depressed while the action cycles:

Good luck...

Thanks for the input guys, but I got it to work without any milling/filing. It turns out the USGI trigger group made it so that it was a reeeeeeeally tight fit!!

If the trigger group is REALLY tight, there are stresses going somewhere else. Dress the flat of the trigger group (as shown where the SAGE stock was relieved), and maybe square up any imperfections on the trigger guard from the stamping process. You might find that easier than replacing some rickydink pin or repairing some bearing lug.
