I fitted a repro M1A1 Carbine folding stock to my M1 Carbine, just for something different.
It is one of the Italian repros, very nicely made with a beautiful piece of walnut. However they finished the cheekrest with a cheap piece of leather and chrome rivets that just did not look right.
So I found a nice piece of russet leather and the brass brake lining rivets of the correct size and style and went to work.
Here is what I was trying to achieve from pics of original stocks. Thanks to Steve1987 for the second pic of his original carbine.
Here is my repro before. Note the rough grain, wrong colour and chrome rivets.
And after I had finished. I am quite happy with the results, I antiqued the brass of the rivets and "aged" the leather so it has the proper "look".
