I fitted a repro M1A1 Carbine folding stock to my M1 Carbine, just for something different.

It is one of the Italian repros, very nicely made with a beautiful piece of walnut. However they finished the cheekrest with a cheap piece of leather and chrome rivets that just did not look right.

So I found a nice piece of russet leather and the brass brake lining rivets of the correct size and style and went to work.

Here is what I was trying to achieve from pics of original stocks. Thanks to Steve1987 for the second pic of his original carbine.

Here is my repro before. Note the rough grain, wrong colour and chrome rivets.

And after I had finished. I am quite happy with the results, I antiqued the brass of the rivets and "aged" the leather so it has the proper "look".

Very nice work, that makes a big difference in appearance. Where did you source the stock from?

Thanks. I have had this stock for quite a few years, I think i bought it in the US ? Numrich and Sarco in the US list them, but I cannot vouch for the quality. The Numrich one looks like an Auto Ordnance version. I believe Marstar was selling the Italian repro for $325.00 recently, but they are out of stock. You could get on their notify list for the next shipment.
