Which is "better", the original M14 M2 bipod or a commercially available bipod (such as Harris?)?

By "better" I would take into account the following:
--cost
--availability
--accuracy
--versatility

I can easily install a sling swivel stud for the Harris bipods. Any suggestions on how? I know I can get a replacement from Brownells if needed.

I had an M2 years ago. I'll confess I don't use a bipod on my M1A's but the Harris is more than adequate. I think the M2 would be better suited to full auto fire. It is heavy, clumsy and awkward. Does look very cool however. Locking the bipod on the gas cylinder probably isn't the best for accuracy.

Easy enough : original M2's cost an arm, are hard to find, mingle with your accuracy by adding a moving part to the gas system and don't have the ~quick disconnect ability of the Harris bipods.

Be sure to know that a Harris will likely need a QD post to be installed on your stock.

Are you keeping your rifle original, wood stock, no aftermarket goodies?
Get the M2...it looks great and works better then it gets credit for, but good luck finding an original.
Putting your rifle in an aftermarket chassis? Get the Harris.

F/A, that thing would be pouring money down the range. A kickass rifle there, machman...
