So I've got my 2 Norc M305's; the shorty and the full size. Fun. Nostalgic.

But really, who are we kidding? The modern XCR just blows the Norc outta the water in every regard.

Seems like everybody that gets into the M305 ends up with 2, 3, or more... money that could buy an XCR, chambered in the same .308cal.

Not trying to raise a #### storm or anything, just was looking at those Robinson Arms XCR's and drooling.

Anybody else got the XCR Envy? Who is rocking both? I can feel the 'pull'...

I've never been a fan of the XCR, every one I've held felt ungainly and poorly balanced. For black rifles I really prefer ARs.

I've gone the issued look for my M14, with a USGI fibreglass stock & a sparrow hawk dummy selector... I don't find my M14 gives me any XCR envy... But I do find that I have Modern Hunter envy... One will be mine, one day, my precious!!!

Cheers
Jay

i love my m305. i take it to the range all the time along with a mallet and a rubber buttpad and a stool. you take the 305 and hammer the barrel into the ground to the gas plug and put the buttpad back on and slap your stool down. and bam you are ready to enjoy yourself with a great rest!. i mean that is the best use i can find for a 305 so far.

if I was to opt for a different semi auto .308 rifle...... regardless of my affinity for the m14..... the XCR would not even make my list of alternatives.
no interest in owning one of those rifles.

The M305 is in an amazing position: It's cheap to import, and can be made into an effective rifle with a little TLC & parts.

It's still a product of its time, not a future-blaster, and there are some limitations with that.

It's possibly the only cold-war era battle rifle that dodged the axe, so competition is pretty minimal. If we still had FALs and G3s in Canada I don't think the M14 platform would see nearly the same popularity it enjoys today.

For the dollars, they can't be beat! But if you have dollars, there are other big bad .308s to chase after.

I sold this

Wish i had kept the m305 :(

Sold the xcr-m

The xcr-m cost was almost 3K basic, the M305 as above was 1k

To me the xcr-m was not worth extra 2k basic.
