so my buddy wants to try machining his own replacement bolt and parts for his norc m305. He has made many one off parts in the past with great success... question though.... what type of steel would one use to duplicate a usgi standard trw bolt.
anyone know such things??

There's some special metallurgy and heat treatment involved here...why try to outthink a mil-spec government contractor? You really want to take a chance with that much pressure right beside your face?

being that the usgi parts are getting harder and harder track down.... and the end cost is prohibitive to having them shipped from u.s. without hoop jumping.... we are the types that are simply not content to .... leave well enough alone. :D
my friend has built 2 firearms from scratch, a colt from a chunk of steel to a complete slide and frame (parts purchased) to a bolt action 45-70 which he made every part (including the barrel)but the trigger mechanism, scope and stock. Hunts with it every year, shot a lotta game with that gun. A machinist by trade for 34 some years..... I'll trust his projects just fine.
thee must be a link to this info somewhere out there but i can't find it :(
