I have a 2013 18.5"
I've removed the set screw. The castle nut one, not the fromt sight one. Surprisingly it came out without a problem.
I'm trying to turn the castle nut (not move the welded flash hider)
I've been hammering on it with a 2.5lb sledge and a chisel and the bloody thing won't budge!!! With the barrel pointed away from me (as if firing the rifle) I'm attempting to turn the castle nut counter-clockwise. Am I going the wrong way?!?
Any other tips?

Oops, i mean I'm trying to turn counter-clockwise if looking at the muzzle end. Clockwise if looking down the barrel.

Thx!

Got it to move. I was going in the correct direction. I simply had to hit it hard enough that I felt like I was giving up on the rifle lol.

A little penetrating oil and the proper tools for the job are handy (castle nut pliers).

Every once in a while I'll resort to using a punch on a 305, generally this also requires a bit of labour to touch-up the threads I've dinged on the barrel....
