I'm looking to chop my M305 to 18.5" and install a new muzzle break/flash hider and navy gas lock sight or a break with integrated front sight. Where do I buy the parts and who does the work? M14 Doc is busy so who else?

Jeff Smith in Petawawa is cutting and threading my S.A sight for me in Jan....I can PM his # if needed...Gotta be ready for Hungry,s Clinic in Jan:dancingbanana::ar15:

Im confused, when i asked about chopping CZ858 restricteds everyone said it would be ilegal, whats different with a m14?

the barrel chops for m14's are from non restricted length off 22" down to non restricted length of 18.5" the minimum length for non restricted firearms..... anything under 18.5" automatically becomes restricted...... or if by shortening you have reduced the overall length to Under the OAL for nonrestricted, regadless of barrel length.....

at least i think that's how it goes :D :D

To the OP, I have been turning down some rifle work so as to keep my work load lighter over the holidays. I will be resuming business as usual in January.

fixed it..

ive been thinking about this barrel project too. does everyone kinda offer the same price?
with the barrel chop, flash hider and sights and tax its like $475, (thats based on the valleygunsmithing site)...which seems like a new rifle (pretty much is a new rifle though :) )

If the barrel is cut less than 18.5"? Is it not prohib. Anything manufactured shorter is restricted.. That's my understanding.

I will still welcome inquiries on quotes via email.
If you click the link below you will see a basic break down of what my Accurized Shorty work entails and you can get an idea of what individual procedures will cost you. I stock NM oprod spring guide rods, can supply the NEA mag releases and soon bolt stops, I stock Dlask 1/2 x 28 muzzle devices, and can source most canadian made m14 parts like front sights ect. I do specialize in complete rifle "packages" but folks can pick and chose from my advertised prices for the work they want done. I'll be resuming my normal bookings as of the new year.

Thomas had it right, less than 18.5 is not prohib, merely restricted.

NO!! Read the the firearms site! Cutting a barrell less than 18.5 for semi auto or 18 inches for non-semi makes them PROHIB!

Definition of a Prohibited FirearmThe Criminal Code states that a prohibited firearm is:

•a handgun with a barrel length of 105 mm or less;
•a handgun designed or adapted to discharge 25 or 32 calibre ammunition;
•a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make it less than 660 mm (26 inches) in overall length;
•a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make the barrel length less than 457 mm (18 inches) where the overall firearm length is 660 mm (26 inches) or more;
•an automatic firearm and a converted automatic firearm;
•any firearm prescribed as prohibited.

mine is already restricted i just wanted to make it a shorty. Thought about doing my m14 too 18.5 as well

Yes but hacking the barrell off an already restricted rifle makes it prohibited

There is NO mention in that law that there is an exception for restricted rifles.
