So I take apart the bolt today on the m305 to give things a nice cleaning and lube and there is no way in gods green earth I am getting the extractor to go back in. I have the cut out side of the ejector oriented to the right and using a 3008 casing in the chamber to compress that home and looking down the hole from the top side of the bolt the hole is nice and round (firing pin and ejector plunger are NOT interfering with the "pin" of the extractor).
What I am seeing is the ball and spring of the extractor spring sticking out like crazy far so the cammed surface of the extractor does not engage the balled end of the spring. To me it almost looks like a spring loop (or two) can be removed to make things go back together. Any ideas or insight are welcome on this.

That sounds pretty normal for a Nork extractor spring. I've worked out a method of using a thin flat screwdriver to press it in while I give the extractor a whack, but I couldn't for the life of me actually describe the convoluted finger contortions. Just keep at it, but make sure you're wearing safety glasses just in case ;)

I got it. Went out and using a fine tipped screw driver I was able to work the spring into its recess enough so the cam surface of the extractor could push the spring down on its own. Happiness is a "click" of the spring seating in the extractor detent. The follow up question to this afternoons escapade is this. Are the ejector spring and extractor spring and plunger to long on a M305 compared to a USGI M14? When you get to 36:00 this guy shows a top down view of the spring in question and my Nork spring does not look anything like this fellows sticking out well proud of the recess (and no there is no goop in the recess).

Pop. I hear you about the finger gymnastics, I even used a piece of 2X4 pushing the cocking handle forward with my belly to get the hole all lined up and have both sets of hands and all ten fingers actively working at putting this together, it also makes it more fun to have everything (gun/parts/tools/fingers) oil coated to add to the experience.

Nice work!

From the perspective of reassembly, they're too long, but functionally they seem to work fine. You could experiment with snipping a few coils off of the spring, but it would probably be a good idea to order a USGI replacement instead and just keep your Norc one as a spare. Or don't even worry about it anymore if you don't plan on taking your bolt apart anymore.

Pop, it will be a good long while before I take that apart again. That's sound advise about spare springs but I would not want to buy more nork springs as my gut just says they are workable but wrong for length. It would be interesting if anyone had the two extractor springs (Nork/USGI) side by side to see if there is a difference, or maybe the hole for the spring is deeper on one vs the other.

Aerosol Brake Cleaner is your friend. :)

Don't bother taking any Norc bolt apart since you do at your own peril. They are not as predictable as USGI or LRB or SAI or FA or Garand bolts to pull apart and have back together.

It's also another reason to have spare bolt innards inside a prescription pill bottle inside your "Oh Shzt!" Kit. I will show you such an example at my next clinic. LOL :)

Cheers and kelp helping them noobs.

Hi
Anyone knows where i can buy the extractor spring for my M305?
Thanks

Don't cut your spring. I did it on my norc and the extractor departed after 10 rounds. That spring prevents the extractor from departing. To make assembly easier grab a usgi spring and plunger, its shorter and stiffer. They are $6 from treelinem14 but $20 in shipping to vancouver. If you decide to purchase a usgi extractor, to save on shipping, make sure that it doesn't protrude below your bolt or it will hit rounds in your mag and depart after about 10 rounds. I just recently went through this dance.
