Hello folks. Been a long time since I was here. Took my rifle out to go shooti g a few months ago and it was not stripping the next round out of the mag. It managed to get one round out and partially into the chamber and I noticed there was a dimple on the firing pin. Tips? Perhaps who I can send it to for repair? Thanks folks

Jeff

Dimple on the firing pin? I’m thinking you’re talking about a dimple from the firing pin on the primer? Perhaps a picture would help..... a slight impression on the primer of a loaded but not fired round is normal due to the floating firing pin with this platform.

As far as having trouble feeding from a magazine, it is likely a magazine issue. Have you tried more than 1 mag?

You're talking about the first round. This is the one you load by pulling the charge handle back and then letting the oprod and bolt fly forward. When charging the rifle, did you let the bolt fly forward with gusto or did you ease the bolt forward? M1's and M14's need to be charged aggressively. If you're talking about the next round being fed after firing the first, then its likely is the mag not feeding properly (see post above).

Derp. Yes. The dimple was on the primer. It was the second round out of the mag. Loaded mag in, yanked the charge handle back and let her fly. Firtst round goes in fine, fires and ejects spent case and then fails to load. Round comes part way out and into the first bit of the chamber and then nada. I think the gun came with at least 2 mags and I'm pretty sure I tried them both. It's really strange. I bought the rifle about 8-9 years ago and put two boxes through it the next day. Took it home and cleaned it and the next trip to the range I had the feeding issue.

So if it's not the magazine, what could another cause be? I dont want a round going off out of the chamber.

You mention that the second round is in the chamber but the bolt hasn't gone into battery. The firing pin just dimples the primer. That eliminates the magazine IMHO. It could be a dirty chamber or a weak or broken main spring. While you're at it, check that the gas port is not partially covered and the gas plug is tight.

might not be the problem but it is worth checking to see if your magazine release itself has a broken/collapsed roll pin.
On my bench it was a fairly common find when diagnosing glitchy rifles.
