Was at the range today and was having alot of FTF's. I dont think its my mag not sure what else it could be. Its not fully stripping the round out of the mag and then it jams in the bolt. Sometimes its like the bolt skips right over the bullet altogether. The bolt also doesnt seem to be all that smooth when pulling it back especially when it starts to engage by the trigger. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

It could be the mag but it also sounds like it could be short-stroking when it fails-to-feed. Try different mags to isolate the issue. If it is short stroking, check your gas system or for binding during the op. rod travel. As mentioned, a loose gas plug could be the issue.

If you can't work out the issue, try videoing the action on firing and post it here.

Check the bolt roller to make sure it's intact and see if it passes a tilt test. Is it a KCI magazine (they're notorious for poor function from what I hear)? Is this new behaviour for the rifle or is this happening right out of the box? If the latter, did you disassemble the gas system and clean all the oil out of it?

I have tried other mags the one that works the best seems to be the original norinco mag. I didnt check the gas plug but i will definately take a look at it. The problem does seem to be happening more frequently. What is the tilt test?

So i just disassembled my 305 and found a few things going on. I tried the tilt test and the oprod made it 3/4 of the way back and stopped. It looks like it has been rubbing where the barrel diameter starts to step. It looks like it might be due to the barrel being over indexed. The band on the barrel that the oprod slides through is off to one side and the oprod is rubbing right in the middle of the offset. The second thing is the gas block probably needs to be shimmed. I noticed it was loose and when i removed the gas plug e block dropped down against the barrel band and there was a gap between the block and threaded retaining cap.

Before you throw a bucket of money at the problem, but after you consult with Barney, look at how you are shooting.

Put down the pumpkin spice latte. Take off the poser t-shirt, morale patches and Multicam pants. Lace up your boots. Hold the rifle firmly with both hands. Hold it tight against your shoulder. And, buttercup, take the recoil the way the US Army Ordnance Corps designed it to be fired. My long distance diagnosis is you are "limpwristing" the rifle on bags on a shooting bench. Just like a soft grip on a handgun, you are not letting Mr. Newton's Laws of Physics work.

If you cant get Barney or yomomma I can sort it out the indexing issue for you as well , but I am 4 hours north.
Your op rod guide will probably need to be aligned as well ...is it loose at all ?
Knock off the flashider and try flipping the gas locking ring over as this solves the shimming problem sometimes or try swapping it with another if possible .

Yeah i was thinking the same about the gas locking ring. I had a troy battlerail installed awhile ago and the gas system was tight before that as far as i know. So maybe it was put on the opposite way. The oprod guide isnt loose though.
