This mag was getting the better of me and it didnt help that the only ones getting back to me on any of my requests was #####, AV Joe on ebay and wolverine supplies (All my business will be going thru you if i can help it now.)
Anyways i was over thinking the whole process but accidentally found a solution via hitting my head on my ceiling and cursing my height for the 3rd time today when i thought why cant i just block it.

I still have to decide on double stack single feed or keep with the double-double, if im going to cut the follower or finish my own and some and the finishing touches on the block

If any one knows of a gunsmith that either sells .458 blanks, Works with 45-70 and or Custom Contouring please PM me as iv tried Epps and BOP but cant get any replies. Ill get the money if you have the time.

The bolt face is complete and the case fits nice, Extractor is done. Will need to be refined at a later date but done for now.

Side note: The bolt has more "meat" left on it then my mosin did.

I'm going to see if I can find a 458 barrel with a diameter of 1.100 or minimum 1.000 or greater and turn it down. I'm going to TRY and make it a repeater with some welding and dumb luck and hopefully a adjustable gas plug if my bank will let me....

Doesn't 45-70 produce less pressure then .308? If anything the gas port would have to be enlarged.

I reason that the bullet is traveling at around 1800fps so it's staying in the tube that little bit longer and it might effect the pressure in gas tube.

I know nothing at all I'm just saying my own thoughts.

bigger hole , but slower , didn't do the pressure calc's , just assumed it was more psi .
will check and report back on psi calc

If it less , thats good , always easier to make the port a little bigger

Not really, I knew going into it that the extractor is going to be the weakest link. Its going to be trial and error for a long lasting one.

Still if I can get this thing to cycle a full mag (4) ill be happy.

wow.. umm.. pressure wise the 45-70 @ 1800ish is high enough.

with 405grain hardcasts this this will just be a jackhammer really. .. omg

LOL that sounds soooooo EPIC :D very cool project. My only fear would be that M305 components and receivers seem to breaking occasionally even under the stress of .308win. Cant even imagine the strain on the action caused by 45-70 :O i see a busted bolt lug on the horizon.

that's the fun part......strings and clamps are your friends, for the first box at least.
