Finally took the new to me M305 out shooting. I actually did it a couple days ago just was too lazy to upload the pictures.

If you haven't seen the thread of when I first got it a week or so ago. Here it is.

M305 Good Or Bad Condition

So here are some photos of the shooting day and some test results. Enjoy.

The rifle actually started firing full auto on me out at the range. Had to take it apart and wipe out excess grease. Lesson to learn. Don't over grease

25 meters, bench rested

50 meters, bench rested

100 meters, bench rested

50 meters, bench rested and kneeling. 5 shots of each

100 meters, bench rested, standing and kneeling. 5 shots of each

Great pics! How do you like using the irons at 100 yds? I have a hard time "making out" the bullseye and usually just aim for the center/whichever corner of the paper. Are the sights on the m305 different somehow than other m1a's?

Should start a "let's play a game" thread for the m305. 100 yds, 10 shots...standing? What would be the shooting position everyone could agree on? Just a thought. I'll hit the range on lunch break tomorrow and try 10 standing at 100yds.

Good range report, looks like a decent rifle indeed. any thoughts on what you might like to upgrade or change

I want to break the weld on the flash hider, new stock most likely a Springfield M1A stock or a wood stock, scope mount & scope, new rear sight would be nice too since I plan to switch to and from scope and iron sights shooting. I'm planing too knurl the op rod guide surface soon. I don't have a knurling tool but I'm just going to do it by hand with a hammer and punch. The rife came with a black feather recoil spring guide. I would also like to get at least 2 more magazines for it. Re doing the finish is also a possibility. My plans are to turn this rifle in to a shooter and a part time hunter.

I discovered the iron sights were set so that what ever it's aiming at must be covered up by the front post to hit it. It actually works very well on a target to consistently be aiming at it. As long as your target is covered, you know you're aiming at it. That's not how I set it though. The original owner had it set that way and i'm unable to turn the knobs to adjust the rear sight.

As far as I'm aware for upgrades, the rifle came with a black feather recoil spring guide.

Sounds like a good plan to me, as CoonT said, how are the current rear sights did they move after each shot or did they stay in place. if the function fine maybe save a few bucks n leave em on, unless your wanting match sights of course. and a lovely wood stock is NEVER a bad idea lol. I too am wanting to re finish a few parts on a current build, maybe get them re parked, when I have more parts available I will send em away in a batch. Good luck with rifle and welcome to the m14 addiction

I'd actually be down for that. Make a thread and the next time at the range I'll give it a try all 10 shots standing.
