Recently in an effort to correct a drifting zero in my scoped M-305 I overtightened the foreward thumbscrew on the mount and stripped it (so much for the soft-steeled Chinese receiver). Does anyone know of a source for these thumb screws. I beleive the mount to be a clone of the SA 2 point that bolts to the receiver and replaced charger clip guide.

If you get really reaLLY stuck, I have the tap and die set for this thread.

PS: Cheap scope mounts fo the M-14 are usually cheap for a very good reason

I my self have thousands of hand taps kicking round.........Let me know what size you need?

Although if its aluminum - The mount it self may be stripped - Meaning a larger screw must be used since the remaining threads have been stripped / mushed with no material to retap ( to hold the screw in place )
Hence the 1 size larget setscrew...............Let us know how you work out.

Forget the thumbscrew if it's toast, get a hex head bolt and small lockwasher. Someone on here has to know the pitch of the threads, they are the same as US M14/M1A for this hole.......

Yeah I believe the thread is 12/32 which I haven't been able to find on a few trips to the local hardware stores,. I might be better off to just spend a little more on a new mount.

not 100% sure, as its been a while since i made some up, but you are right, its ether 12-32 or 14-32. i have the correct taps and dies in the shop. i have build new thumbscrews

They are 12-32 UNEF taps.

They are a odd ball thread size, its bad enough that number 12 thread sizes are odd balls in general, but a Extra Fine, not the normal Fine thread is used.

A number 12 you see is so close to a 1/4 thread size that most just use the 1/4 in size and dont think about using the number 12 thread sizes. :(

I got a Made in Canada 12-32 UNEF myself from a Tooling supplier I deal with. :)

Update

Sorry to bring this thread back to life. I finally got around to ordering a replacement bolt from Sadlak industries, good people to deal with. I was now able to really tighten this mount down and lok -tite it into place. I'm going to replace the stripper clip guide thumb screw as well and if I have any problems with it I'll likely order a new mount from Sadlak as they have some nice looking M-1A mounts of their own manufacture.
