So I bought an M305b not too long ago and Ive been looking into getting a scope mount for it. Ive looked around online and Im not really sure what a decent one is. I want one that can still use the iron sights and obviously holds zero. Does anyone know of a good one thats a good price? Thanks

Had a basset, sold it for an arms 18. Basset is easier and works great, arms looks better and is more complicated with more points of contact. I found it didn't fit as well as the basset.

As a previous poster noted, the CASM is “bomb-proof”, but as an additional poster noted it will neccissate the removal of the factory rear. The peep incorporated into the rail does serve as a good back up.

My personal recommendation is a Basset if you’re wanting a scope to be removable with very little effort and have it with-in 1 MOA when re-installed.

The ARMS or SAGE are both really good options for permanent scope bases that still utilize the irons. Both of these options will require fiddling with the ejector spring to tune out stove piping and ejection failures.

My iron sights failed about a month in...

I have to ask as you seem to be in the know. I have tried The Basset 2 different models and the arms 18 and the Sadlak On two different M305B and a M1A and could not get them to line up well enough to have any scope adjustment left to be usefull. They all had to be cranked over hard right or hard left to get on the paper. Now I have mounted scopes on a lot of Bolt actions and never had this problem and I cannot see anything out of wack with any of the 3 and cannot think that all 3 rifles could be that bad. I am wondering if you have any words of wisdom about this?

Rings with windage adjustment. Cheap Millet brand rings are a good option IMHO.

You can true up the mount with shims or bedding material, but adjustable rings are a much quicker option.

A “quick n dirty” way to true up your rail is to zero your irons @ 100y, then run a fishing line through the rear peep and over the front sight post. This should enable you to get the mount true enough that standard rings will allow you to zero an optic.
