M305 shorty triggers are non-standard???

I have an M305 shorty with a broken mag latch. I tried to replace the roll pin, but--first problem--the roll pin I got does not fit tightly into the hole on the trigger group. It's loose. Without the sping, it will just fall through the hole. With the spring, the tension will temporarily hold it in place, but it easily drifts out when you operate the latch. Plus, things don't quite line up properly--the latch doesn't sit in just the right place with the result that the magazine does not lock in place.

OK, no problem, I have another trigger group lying around, that I took out of a full length norc m305 when I bought a USGI trigger. I'll just throw that in, until I figure out how to fix the shorty trigger.

Guess what? It doesn't fit in the receiver of the shorty. The tab on the full length M305's trigger groupis just a little too wide to slide into the slot on the shorty--even with the stock off, I just can't slide it into the receiver. The USGI and full length trigger slide into the full length M305 receiver no problem, but neither of them fit into the receiver of the shorty. The shorty trigger WILL fit into the full length.. but wiggles a bit.

Really???? Is my shorty just special, or is this true of all of them.

Is it norc mag latch roll pins that are the wrong size? Or only shorties? I am not goign to take the mag latch out of my working triggers to find out, I want to have at least one gun that is working :) :) :) Any thoughts on how to get a roll pin for the shorty that fits?

Or, alternately, any thoughts on why the trigger group for the full length doesn't fit into a shorty receiver?

p.s. - the magazine catch pin seems to small came from here: amherst-depot.com/gunparts.m14.htm

Chinese roll pins for the mag release are larger, the hole is NOT the same as M1A or M14. It's metric

I've also seen the super tight new receivers not accepting all trigger groups without modifications.... I also wonder what's going on to cause that. Thinkin china is hitting the end of all the parts they made back in the 90's

OK. Is there a list somewhere of all the parts on a norc that are NOT compatible with m1a/m14 parts?

i.e., which are "metric"?

This is putting a serious dent in the notion that the m305 platform is user serviceable. The actual statement is that the M1A is user serviceable, while the M305 relies on a bunch of proprietary and hard to find parts.

If you are implying that roll pin are hard to find then ya I guess.
Princess auto has roll pins.
You can also try to put a smaller roll pin inside of the roll pin .

I'll measure the pin size but lordco, tasco, rona, home depot, princess auto ect, all carry bulk roll pins in many sizes. Oh and NAPA auto parts where I always find good quality roll pins when I need em ;)

If someone can tell me the size of roll pin I need, that would be hugely appreciated. If they come in bulk, I will buy a lot, keep a few for myself, and hand the rest out at the next meet/clinic/whatever I attend ;)

Sometimes I wonder who the heck is doing the reverse engineering over in Zhina. It seems to me that the different parts suppliers come from different (read; far flung and without innernet) high school districts. :)

I've stopped believing that Norc M14 parts will fit other Norc M14's....One of the reasons Skullboy and I snapped up as much USGI goodies as we could back in 2002 when these rifles landed in larger and more decent quality expectations.

So we might have to do the Princess Auto roll pin supply approach....

Hope this helps,

Barney

Princess auto is a bit far from me, but I have Home Depot nearby. I'll try there first. So what am I actually looking for? Every possible size of roll pin? I don't have one to take in to compare--it broke and I binned it. I don't really feel like taking apart the working trigger and potentially ruining that roll pin as well. Any rough guide on what I should buy?

So... looks like I may have to mail order these. Did not find "metric" rollpins anywhere local to me. Did find some US based hardware stores that have them and will do mail order.

Just to make that order worthwhile.... what OTHER sizes of roll pins should I order? It's gonna be $10 for the shipping and $0.15 for the roll pin or something like that. Seems like I should buy a few dozen rollpins of different types and have them on hand.

Anyone know what other "metric" rollpins the M305 uses? What sizes in addition to the 4mm mag latch pin? I'll put in the order and stock up on them all.

Have you tried Brafasco or Fastenall near you....

If they do not have it on the shelf they will order it in.

Frig TO has so many places that sell hardware, if you cant find them your doing something wrong

It's not exactly near me, it's an hour driving there and back. I'm not convinced that $8 in gas and an hour of my time beats $10 in shipping lol. I am a few clicks away from ordering, or an hour of driving in city traffic.... umm... I can wait the week it'll take for the order to arrive?
