Got a quiet weekend to play with a M305 shorty I've had hiding in the safe since last summer...

Rifle is stock except for a CASM and my trusty 1.75-4 Bushnell trophy that I like dropping onto short/mid range rifles for smacking gongs and patrolling the back ponds for saber tooth wood rats (beaver for you city folk)...

I've put 80 rounds thru the rie so far to date, from SA ball to 150gr federal SP and a few tracers over WC735, the SA has been the best so far netting a solid 1" group at 100M too bad it had 6" of vertical stringing... Heh... So I guess that 1" becomes a 6" group eh? Funny tho I shot 2 strings of 5 about 10-15min between them and both strings shot within 1/2" of each other the first shot of both groups was actually touching one another dead center on my target.... Such a tease eh?

Just began the tear down to see what's going on, my last mag at the range I noticed my gas plug was coming loose after the first shot, I tightend it by hand and took another shot and it was loose again... Grabbed the wrench and snugged it up and she stayed put for the remaining 3 shots.... Hmmmm that told me something was up...

Was hoping I dident have to try to get this welded on flash hider off buuuut looks like it's dremel time, on the plus side the barrel is indexed "ok" (for a Norc) and the op rod guide looks like it's pinned properly and tight, op rod is straight and only out of alignment by 1/16" but it's leaving some rub marks on the bottom of the barrel, bolt lugs seem to be making even contact but have a bit of wear on the top of one of them....

Any ideas on the stringing? Maybe the CASM forward screw is a bit tight?

You could shim your gas cylinder without removing the flash hider, but I would recommend to take it off anyway for cleaning and disassembling. When I took mine off there was lots of carbon, some rust and sand between the barrel and flash hider.

Vertical stringing is more typical of a hot barrel. Or the operator :)

Strings were shot casually not rushed and from a lead sled, shots moved down from POA about 1" per shot for a total of 6"... And it was repeated with the second mag, that's not the shooter...

Ya I'll beat on it later this afternoon, the weather went to poop so I'm headed to Dawson Creek for the gun show... Weather never cooperates when I make weekend plans :-/
