I've only skimmed my copy of "Crown Jewels" so I may have overlooked the obvious but was there ever a bayonet issued with either the M38 Swedish short rifle or the Husqvarna equivalent? In reading short passages in the book it was suggested that these shorter rifles may have never been intended for infantrymen as the M96 was but instead for truck drivers and the like who needed a shorter rifle. With that in mind, if the info were true it would seem that a bayonet would not be a requirement for these rifles.

Any enlightened Swedish collectors care to take a crack at this?

In the sections referencing the various short rifles and the Rifles and Carbine Bayonets chapter (Chap 18) no mention is made of a bayonet being issued with the M38 CG or Husqvarna, so my original question still stands.

Is there other reference material to check (nothing regarding this on House of Karlina or the Surplusrifle web sites)?

Both the shortened M96's ("M96/38"), and the purpose-built M38 retained an operational bayonet lug. By WWII the standrad barrel length was not the 29" of the M96, but more like the 23" of the M38.

Not an answer, but why go to the trouble of making the M38 "Bayonet-capable" if there was no intention of using one? Who says that Infantrymen were not issued them?
