I have just completed turning a shot out 91/30 into a replica M38. I have been wanting to do this for some time. A $100 Mosin with little rifling left at the muzzle.
I took it to the range yesterday for it's trial shoot. Holy crap. I have seen pictures of the fireball but had not expected that much. A thunderous crack and a flame in broad daylight that caught the attention of every shooter there.
It has a sharp kick up and not at all like its former incarnation. A Mosin rifle usually holds on target for me but this baby wants to kiss the sky at every bang. I loved it. I had one of my other 91/30s, an SKS and my SVT40 but the new carbine was the most fun. You have got to try one.
Befor the mod it shot 7" group at 100 yards and I managed a 6" group after cut down so the rifleing is better down the bore. If I had a camera I would post pics but alas I don't get a new one till Christmas
