M38 range report

So, I got my Red beauty cleaned up and out to the range. I have to say, I was VERY pleased!

First off there was the Oooooh and Ahhhhh factor... When I uncased I elicited several remarks from admirers. Many other shooters came by to ogle her. They were all impressed, despite the steep price to acquire her.

Then came the shooting. My full length 1922 1891 was a little tighter, but I thought this was pretty good... I was using Russian surplus 147 grain ball, and with iron sights managed to consistently turn out groups such as this one (Yes Virginia... There are two bullets through that one ragged hole in the 9 ring):

Once again: SPASIBA Westrifle! Keep the beautiful Red guns coming!

Nice. With my Russian M44 and cast bullet loads my best is, I would guess, about 2-2.5 inches at 75m, which I think is pretty decent for coarse military sights (I can do 1.5" with the PU sniper).

Man I gotta get out and do some serious shooting. At least a dozen newly acquired rifles need to be fired, Westrifle's M38 is one of them.

I posted my target! Ran flawlessly using Russian surplus. Consistent three inch groups at 100m. Nice, clean trigger and smooth action on the bolt. Another beauty!
