Do you guys find that keeping up with/identifying all the stuff on the M4, C8 etc is getting hard to do? They are starting to look like Johnny Seven guns. I remeber when it was just M16A2 or M16A1 and M14, C1A1 etc. Maybe I`m getting old.

It's not just you. Frankly I can't stand guns with enough rail estate to make CN jealous, littered with all kinds of crap from the Kool Aid du jour "tactical" widget makers like Magpul or Larue. Give me a stock Colt 727 any day.

Secret Sam! I had one of those. I used to have it with me when I watched Man from Uncle. The only accessory you need is a couple of mags and lots of ammo

y2K, you're not too old. It's just the age of accessories. Why, because they are there. We never had them 30yrs ago.
I think the new generation is somehow hooked on zombie invasions and the apocalypse. ;)

that's exactly what the troops said when they saw the m16/xm148 ( the forerunner of the m203) - most guys still kept the blooper as well

actually, we did- look at the m16.xm148- that's a m16 with a blooper tube attached, and was fielded in 69

Sorry to say it, you're just becoming a fudd. Not all accessories have practical purposes, but they dont need to either. If it makes someone enjoy their firearm what's the harm in that? There are lots that are practical based on situational circumstances too (and not just zombie apocolypses :p)

Never had the Secret Sam or the Johnny Seven, though I drooled over them when we "played guns", as kids.

I did have one I thought was even cooler , Topper Toys Johnny Eagle Lieutenants Rifle. A scaled down M-14, that shot its pointed bullets out of reloadable plastic springloaded cartridge cases. A gift from my grandfather in winter of 68/69.

It was broke in two, the same year my Marx toy M16 sound-o-matic rifle was destroyed.

I have always fought the urge to start toy gun collecting from the era of my childhood, but with limited resources, the real things take precedence.:)

I'm from the new generation and dislike the multi-tool style guns with 25ft of combined picatanny rails. But i don't mind when other people have them loaded to the hilt, I just don't want any of that #### on my rifle. I'm proud to use my swiss arms with irons and nothing else to shoot with some of my buddies who do the "tactical" style shooting.

The ones on You tube are in amazing condition..the johnny seven is in its original packaging..I loved the grenade launcher on mine.

I had a J7 and a secret sam. My J7 died a horrible death when it was frozen into a snow drift, I tried to hack it out with a shovel and smashed it into a thousand pieces. Lesson learned. The name lives on...

The truth is somewhere in between. Some accessories are an absolute necessity for certain high speed/low drag operators and once you use them, you just don't want to be without them.

I liken this to owning old cars or motorcycles vs. new ones. While a classic will always give me a nice fuzzy feeling, they simply don't compare to the new stuff, with all the bells and whistles, in terms of comfort, safety and performance...

Holy crap! Before my time, but if my parents had given me that as a kid, I'd probably have gotten guns out of my system by the age of 10 and saved me a small fortune in real guns and ammo! :)
