Hi Group;

I eventually intend to mount some BUIS on my M4 and have a few questions. The sights are same-plane picatinny type, the front is meant to be mounted on a receiver-plane railed handguard.

Since I am not installing a railed handguard I need to arrive at a solution for mounting the sights. Currently the rifle has a standard A2-type FSB and an A4 flattop receiver.

It seems the best solution is to swap the FSB for a receiver-plane railed gas block, such as that offered by Midwest Industries. Has anyone here bought and installed one of their units? Are there any other similar products available?

The JP Enterprises railed adjustable gas block interests me but I believe it is too low. Would this work using a riser to jack up the BUIS? If so, what risers are available at the correct height?

Any advice or input will be appreciated, but with all due courtesy please refrain from telling me to buy a railed foreend - it ain't gonna' happen ;).

Cheers!

I have a UTG quad rail gas block on my M4, and it is too low to line up with the receiver. The Midwest unit looks like a great option.

There are 2 types of front sights that are offered by different companies. One is the railed handguard front sight and the other is the gas block mounted front sight.(standard or flip up) On one of my ARs I have a YHM gas block mounted flip up sight. It is of course taller than the same plane sight.

I believe MI also offers this option as does POF, Leapers/UTG and DPMS. I am sure there are others as well.

Thanks, I will definitely avoid the UTG option. Yeah so far the MI block is my first choice...

Yes, two heights for sure - that's why I specified that I need receiver-plane rails on my gas block. I already bought the sights I want from the EE, they are same-plane. Thanks for the info anyhow, cheers.

The best place for a front sight is on the end of the barrel. Buy/make a block to clamp to the barrel and put it there. If accuracy is important to you then that's where it should be, the greater the sight radius the better. An example is like at rilesmachine.com

Sorry, I didn't realize you already had the sights. YHM has 1/2" risers but that might put the front sight higher than level plane on a standard railed gas block. Looks like the MI option is the way to go.
