I want to build an m40, what Remington should I start out with?

Assuming boyds would be a go to stock choice ?

I have a cz455 varmint as a "trainer" want to start piecing together the full size.

Any help or advice appreciated.

yea have been looking into them a little bit, the old name m40 is what I dig the looks of. Looks like the cz varmint lmfao they r just classy to me.

A base action would be any remington 700, or a remington 40x if u can find them. The stock is a great choice, also have a look at bell & carelson, I miss mine. I've made a few m40a1 copies, and love them, but they are similar to a m24, another fabulas weapon. If you have the cash, GA Precision makes all the M40 rifles.

Depending on how detail oriented you are, you could get fairly close by picking up a Rem 700 PSS. This would give you a short action, 308 with the correct barrel profile and a parkerized finish. Then track down a reproduction M40 wood stock-there are a few vendors in the US making them. The reproduction stock is basically a walnut factory stock without any grip or fore end checkering. Order a set of Witchita sling swivels and you will be pretty close on a decent budget.

Optics and scope base is up to you, again due to a rise in the popularity of these rifles even old Redfield 3-9 Accutracs and the correct Redflield 40x bases and rings are getting pricy on eBay.

Silver Hill Trading in the states makes a stock replica. I have one on order. Not cheap but supposed to be a good copy. Rem 700 SPS in .308, sling swivels, butt plate and a bit of fitting from what I have heard. Badger Ordnance makes an accurate base/rings set up. The real clip slotted receivers and proper Redfield 3-9 are pretty hard to come by unless you are patient. I grabbed a sling from Turner Saddlery. Again not cheap but very nice. Good luck with your build, post some pics when you're done!
