How can be explained that M44 Mosin are sold at the price of a nice Swedish Mauser??
A dealer listed M44 for 399.99......$ with tax and shipping will end near 500$ for a refurb, non matchig Mosin.

Well, you can't get crates of surplus 6.5x55 for less than a buck a round. This is a more important factor than many may think. Even premium hunting ammo for the Mosin is less expensive than 6.5 Swede.

Are Swede Mausers "better" target and hunting rifles? I'd say so, but they're not cheap to shoot. It's why a lot of people, me included, don't own a Swede right now, but do own a Mosin. Combined with the fact that M44's aren't exactly common, I'm not surprised at the asking price.

The lack of supply from anyone but one dealer means they can ask top buck and will sell X number to those who want one now.

Remember the other dealer who did that with the Mosin M38 last fall when they were the sole source of supply?

If in nice shape that's not a horrific price. I've seen them selling for $350-$450 at gun shows this year, and go out the door. Not that they flew off the table for that.

I seen those listed. Its all about supply and demand. They trickle in very slowly and if you want but don't have, best to be jumping on it. It would only be another safe gun and I already have one. The Mint M38 was a total score form Westrifle but I'm passing on the M44s to pursue other items and ammo.

Agreed and the same goes for K31. I understand the cheap ammo factor, but lack of accuracy makes these guns boring for bench shooting. At least that was my experience with my two SKSs. They are gone now.

The M44 is an axe; whilst the swede is a scalpel.
Who spends the time / effort to reload for a marginally accurate rifle when there is oodles of surplus.
I don't care that there is no surplus for the Swede, it's worth reloading for. The Mosin...Meh...not so much.
Inflated prices on Mosin and an undervalued jem in the Swede IMO.
And I own both with no Bias, just the way I see it

Waiting for IRUNGUNS to bring in the Chinese ones for $250.00. Should be here sometime this month. Best milsurp deal out there right now [ that I know of ] is the M95/34 carbines for $139.00 from TRADEX. I got one on the way.

Been looking at those ones myself. Give us a report on what it's like when you get it.

I agree with the OP. Just a few years ago I bought a sweet M44 from Tradeex for $169. They had them sitting on the site for months and to be honest I only bought it because I was bored. Great little gun but not worth anywhere near what a certain dealer is trying to extract!
