M44 mosin nagant muzzle brake!

Marstar or HiCal (both are site sponsors).

But... Don't waste your money. They both carry the NCStar tacti-crap bolt-on brake, that ends up becoming a secondary projectile after a few shots. HiCal does carry the Witt Machine muzzle brake, which, if installed properly, can stay on, but you still have to pay attention and make sure the set screws aren't backing off.

The M44 is a fun gun, same as the m38 and 91/30, but don't try and make it something it isn't, ie: modern and practical. The money you throw at trying to achieve that, you could spend on a modern discount hunting .308 and get better results for less money overall.

But Russian ammo is cheap. I’m just shooting beer cans with it.

Do what the Finns did, get one of these, and drape it over your shoulder:

Särmä Commando Cap, Merino Wool

Or grab one of the recoil pads that fit over the shoulder that the Skeet and Trap guys use. I had a browning one, that I used until someone boosted (erm, borrowed and forgot to return), they're pretty sweet, actually. Really extends the amount of bang you can get in during an afternoon, before the WWII shoulder thumpers wear you down, or 12 gauge, wears you down.

I've tried clamp-on brakes for a couple different guns over the years, and... They're just not that effective. Now I just keep a watch cap in my back pocket, even during the summer, if I know I'm going to be putting in some quality time with something that relies on a steel or brass shoulder cushion to soften the blow and protect the stock, not the shooter.

Witt Machine is a garbage company with horrible customer service. Not sure if their design or instructions have changed but they basically tell you to glue the brake on with loctite and the thing can crack quite easily simply by tightening the set screws. That is if they send you the right one in the first place (Hical would, direct from the company wouldn’t).

just get a threading kit, watch some vids and do the deed in your garage .....14x1LH or 5/8x24 at 21 inch barrel or back .....threads and locktite way better
