Which of the 2 would you pick if you could only get one? Assuming they are in equal shape? I like the M38 (no attached bayo) but the M44 is apparently an improved M38? HElp! This is for the collecter not so much for shooting.

HHB:runaway:

M38, no ugly bayonet (sorry summerside).
It's much lighter and rarer, and doesn't require the pig sticker to be on target.

Assuming we're talking regular collector use (no day of the walking dead werewolf-zombie-anti gun advocates cenarios) I'd take the M38. I love mine, it's light, handy, and unlike the m91/30 or m44, weighs a lot less. Makes for a good bear carbine;)

As a collector, I'd buy them both.
In fact, I'm wondering if there ever was such a thing as a Finn-captured M-38.
PP.

apparently there are. i wonder if the ones international firearms was selling in the 80's were SA marked.

for collecting, i would look for a 1941 or earlier M38 or else a tula M44.

Ya , Im leaning towards the M38 myself.

Just thought Id throw it out. Truthfully I will probably buy one of each but I'll start with the M38!

I think on the empire arms site they had Finnish unissued Mosins with the special wood on sale but they are like $500:eek:

But unissued is pretty sweet made buy Tikka I believe.

The best of them all are the Polish M-44's. They have it all, fantastic quality, chrome bores, amazing accuracy, and character. And last but not least they can be had for peanuts.

This unfired one was on the EE, swapped a 10/22 for it.
